Wright Medical Acquires Foot and Ankle Implant

Wright Medical has acquired a foot and ankle implant from Houston, TX-based Metasurg in a deal valued at $2.5 million. The amount is an initial cash payment and other payments could come based on future financial performance of the implant. Metasurg’s Bio-Arch subtalar implant is used in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of flat foot deformity.
“The flat foot is a progressive deformity that, left untreated, can lead to debilitating pain in addition to formation of bunions, hammertoes and plantar fascitis,” Thomas Redko, a Petaluma, CA, foot and ankle surgeon, said in a statement.
The acquisition is a move to build Arlington, TN-based Wright’s foot and ankle treatment portfolio, according to John T. Treace, vice president of marketing for Wright’s biologic and extremity products.
According to Treace, the Bio-Arch implant is a key addition to Wright’s foot and ankle products, which include Cancello-Pure Bone Wedges, A.M. Surgical’s Endoscopic Soft Tissue Release System, and Darco Locked Reconstructive Plates.
“Wright’s vision is to become the ‘one-stop-shop’ for foot and ankle surgeons’ surgical needs, and providing comprehensive suites of products around specific pathologies is central to achieving this goal,” Treace added.
