Greatbatch Inc. has announced plans to idle three of its facilities outside its Western New York base.

The Clarence, NY-based manufacturer of medical implant devices said the closures are being done “to optimize its operating footprint in several locations.”

A facility in Blaine, MN is being consolidated into another plant in that state — Plymouth, which is involved in catheters and micro-components. The transfer should be completed by the end of September 2009.

Another production line in Teterboro, NJ is being shifted to Greatbatch’s newly-constructed Raynham, MA facility by December 2009.

The third transition calls for the orthopedics business in Exton, PA to be phased out with work shifted to other undisclosed locations.
