MPO website visitors seemed to be in the mood for something sweet this past week, as they flocked to a staff-written update on the latest trends and developments in diabetes technology. Profiled in the feature story are Dexcom's G6 iCGM (integrated continuous glucose monitoring) system, Insulet's Omnipod 5 automated insulin delivery system, Senseonics' Eversense E3, and Medtronic's hybrid closed-loop insulin pump system, which automatically adjusts insulin delivery based on readings from the integrated CGM and automates basal and bolus insulin every five minutes. The system leverages the company's MiniMed 780G system and Guardian Sensor 3.
Runner-up to the sweet tidings of diabetes innovation was the magazine's annual full-service outsourcing overview. This year's roundtable discussion focused on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the virus's impact on the outsourcing service provider-OEM customer relationships. "These partnerships have likely never faced a challenge as significant as what was encountered during the more than two years of the pandemic (or at least, as dramatic as the first few months of the pandemic)," MPO Editor-in-Chief Sean Fenske writes. "Still today, there are forces causing stress, including supply chain issues, raw material and labor shortages, and overwhelming demand for products."
One of those stressful forces—supply chain issues—also drove website traffic this past week. Cybervisitors zeroed in on a column from TekniPlex Healthcare CEO Chris Qualters that provided a strategy for managing global supply chains in uncertain times. He suggests that companies ensure new projects encompass both patient safety and supply chain risk mitigation, and choose partners with a "robust solutions platform" to solve product and supply chain challenges on a global scale.
Other items of interest this week included the FDA clearance of Ethicon Inc.'s Monarch Platform for endourological procedures, and Fresenius Medical Care's new CEO.
