EIZO Unveils Three HD Surgical Imaging Products

By Medica | 11.13.18

EIZO is a Japanese visual technology company that develops and manufactures high-end display solutions.

EIZO GmbH, a manufacturer of visual display solutions for medical imaging applications based in Karlsruhe, Germany, is unveiling three new HD imaging products at this year’s Medica Trade Fair:

1. 58" Monitor with 4K UHD Resolution for Endoscopy and the OR
The CuratOR EX5841 is a new 58" monitor that achieves faithful representation of surgical images. The monitor offers a resolution of 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) and is designed for use in endoscopy and the operating room (OR).

The EX5841 uses an LCD panel with energy-efficient LED backlight, a brightness of 500 cd/m², and a contrast of 5000:1. It displays detailed high-definition images from 4K endoscopes and surgical microscopes. Full HD images from conventional endoscopes and surgical cameras are shown without delay on the full 4K UHD screen.

The LCD panel used enables a very high viewing angle and high brightness. The EX5841 provides a flicker-free picture even with low refresh rates which fulfills the strictest ergonomic requirements. In addition, the monitor is equipped with a protective screen that shields the LCD screen against shocks as well as scratches and dirt. The front is protected against foreign material and splashes with a protection class of IP45, and the entire device has protection class IP32.

In dual source mode, two different signal sources can be viewed on the monitor screen simultaneously. With the PaP (Picture-and-Picture) function, the two images are displayed side-by-side, and with the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) function the second image is shown on top of the main signal. The size and position of the display window is adjustable with PiP. In triple source mode, three signal sources can be displayed on the screen.

The monitor supports various video input and output signals in order to connect different types of modalities. In addition, a communications interface enables image switching using external OR equipment. With 12G-SDI (BNC), DisplayPort 1.2, and HDMI, 4K UHD signals with up to 60 frames per second can be displayed on the monitor using a single cable. Furthermore, all cables can be locked onto the monitor for consistent connection. 12G-SDI (BNC) has stable transmission over a distance of up to 30 meters.

Various settings can be saved in the monitor as presets, such as the selection of video input and brightness, grayscale display, color space, etc. The user selects these with the designated preset button.

2. 27” Full HD Surgical Monitor for Endoscopy and Microsurgery
The CuratOR EX2721 is the company’s brightest 27-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) widescreen surgical monitor for use in endoscopy and microsurgery.

The EX2721 is equipped with an LED-backlight LCD panel with a maximum brightness of 900 cd/m²—the highest brightness among EIZO’s CuratOR Surgical Monitors—for clearly reproducing high definition endoscopy and microsurgery images.

To increase safety in the OR, the monitor has rounded corners and a fully flat protective glass front with a hardness of 9H making it highly resistant to scratches. The glass front has IP45 protection against foreign material and splashes (the whole monitor has an IP32 rating) making it possible to safely sanitize the monitor in compliance with OR regulations. Furthermore, the monitor has superior heat dissipating technology, allowing it to stay cool without a fan. This offers an extremely quiet monitor that does not disturb air flow.

3. Surgical Field Camera with 4K Resolution and Fully Integrated Triaxial Mount
The CuratOR SC430-PTR is EIZO’s first surgical field camera and features 4K resolution and integrated triaxial camera mount for high definition and intuitive capture of surgical proceedings.

The SC430-PTR is a medical-grade surgical field camera with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160) and a progressive 60 Hz signal for capturing surgeries smoothly and in high definition. Furthermore, the camera has 30x optical zoom, allowing even small, narrow surgical sites to be recorded in detail.

Built with an integrated camera mount with +/- 170 degrees pan, +90 and -30 degrees tilt and +/- 165 degrees roll, the camera is able to be adjusted to the ideal angle with ease. This integrated mount also allows the camera head to pan parallel to the field of view, rather than the orientation of the camera head, creating intuitive and confusion-free control.

Typically when under high zoom, a camera’s movements become quicker and harder to control. The SC430-PTR is equipped with stepping technology that slows the camera’s movements as zoom increases, so that even under high zoom the camera head moves at a speed appropriate to the field of view.

Whether using the Camera Control Unit (CCU) panel or wireless remote control, the camera can be controlled from anywhere within the operating room. Furthermore, movement is made even easier with the joystick mounted on the CCU panel or optional wired remote. The camera can also be controlled from operating room software such as CuratOR Caliop.

The camera mount can easily be attached to VESA-compliant ceiling arms and attaches to the CCU via a single cable for effortless installation. This single cable supplies the camera head with power and transmits both audio and video.

EIZO will be demonstrating these new products in Hall 10/ H41.
