Peter van Beek, Business Development Manager—Medical, maxon02.03.21
MPO reached out to members of industry to address the following question:
What do you expect will be one significant change within medtech development and/or manufacturing as a result of the pandemic?
In response, Peter van Beek, business development manager of Medical at maxon , said:
One of the largest challenges medtech manufacturing faced early in the pandemic was an unprecedented global spike in demand for numerous critical devices. These complex products are comprised of a multitude of subassemblies and components, and ramping up production to meet demand proved a challenging undertaking. It required short-term investment and very open communication between medtech manufacturers and their entire supply chain. maxon has been involved globally in a number of urgent projects and initially implemented a “medical fast track” task force that fully utilized our global factory structure to meet worldwide demand. These new established structures have strengthened our customer relationships and will allow for more dynamic response and a robust supply chain beyond the crisis.
On the development side, we see a similar trend where medtech design companies collaborate more closely with supplier engineering teams to achieve flexibility and optimized integration to achieve cost, manufacturing, and performance goals.
