Florian Dierigl, Business Development Manager Medical Industry, TYROLIT - Schleifmittelwerke Swarovski K.G.02.03.21
MPO reached out to members of industry to address the following question:
What do you expect will be one significant change within medtech development and/or manufacturing as a result of the pandemic?
In response, Florian Dierigl, business development manager medical industry of TYROLIT - Schleifmittelwerke Swarovski K.G., said:
The COVID 19 pandemic had a dramatic impact on the medical technology industry (for example, through the postponement of elected surgeries). Manufacturers of orthopedic implants were hit particularly hard.
Due to lockdowns in many countries around the world, it is often not possible to receive visitors from third-party experts at production facilities. However, in order to stay on the cutting edge of technology and production processes, the topic of digitalization is gaining considerable importance, in my view. To start, the easiest and de facto already established technologies like video calls can ensure knowledge is exchanged properly and relationships with suppliers are kept, which is often the key to getting through such challenging disruptions as COVID-19. In the near future, technologies such as augmented reality or virtual reality will increasingly find their way into a technician’s everyday life. Remote working and supporting will become a standard, in my opinion. A milestone for the digitalization of grinding technology is reflected in the TYROLIT ToolScope, a comprehensive modular system solution.
In terms of supply chain, companies will seek solutions from a local partner, who will be available and able to support in short time, no matter what comes, closes, or is blocked. With our worldwide offices and extended partner network, TYROLIT offers customers local support from a global company. Also, a committed partner for stockpiling is the key to avoid experiencing production stoppages.
