Kannan Suresh Kumar, Quality Manager, Laser Light Technologies02.03.21
MPO reached out to members of industry to address the following question:
What do you expect will be one significant change within medtech development and/or manufacturing as a result of the pandemic?
In response, Kannan Suresh Kumar, quality manager at Laser Light Technologies, said:
By implementing Microsoft Teams and Internet of Things technologies, we conducted our external audits for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 virtually in 2020. We now can access our quality systems from internal desktops, as well as analyze live data from a quality and sales dashboard that provides automatic updates. Our overall equipment effectiveness dashboard delivers live data straight from the laser, which gives us the ability to make even the smallest adjustments in real time to maximize quality and efficiency.
By digitizing our operations, Laser Light teams can now communicate more effectively—both with each other and customer teams—about project status, purchase orders, design changes, sharing documents and images, and more. This is especially valuable when meetings span several locations.
As a company, Laser Light has always valued our relationship with our customers and understanding their needs. Perhaps what is most interesting about our virtual communications is that, in some ways, we are having more interaction with our customers through face-to-face meetings or video conferencing. Before the pandemic and social distancing, we would primarily communicate with clients through phone calls and email, but never actually saw them individually. Now people are getting accustomed to sharing their screens and their faces, which builds trust and friendship. It is a more personal way to do business and something we will continue to do post-pandemic.
