Sterigenics International LLC, a global provider of contract sterilization, gamma technologies and medical isotopes, plans a $15 million expansion at its West Memphis, Ark., facility that will triple gamma sterilization capacity.

Opened in 1999, the West Memphis Sterigenics facility currently offers 2.5 million cubic feet of gamma sterilization capacity. The installation of a new gamma cell will triple capacity to 7.5 million cubic feet and upon completion in early 2017 and will result in approximately 20 additional jobs at full capacity, according to the company.

“As the demand for medical devices grows globally, we will add sterilization capacity to meet customer needs,” said Michael Mulhern, CEO of Sterigenics International.

“Our West Memphis location is experiencing increasing demand for sterilization services,” said Philip Macnabb, president of Sterigenics International LLC. “Given the importance of Memphis as a major U.S. logistics hub, it is a critical piece of our global network that we will continue to build upon and expand in order to best serve customers.”

Deerfield, Ill.-based Sterigenics International operates 47 facilities in 13 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Sterigenics provides contract sterilization and ionization services for the medical device, pharmaceutical, food safety, and high-performance materials industries.

The company is owned by private equity firms Warburg Pincus and GTCR.
