For the fourth year out of a possible contracted seven, the United States Department of Defense (headquartered at The Pentagon in Washington, D.C.) has extended a contract with Bedford, Mass.-based Hologic Inc. Billed as a women’s health medtech company, Hologic also manufactures products applicable to wider demographics, including devices for skeletal health assessment and laboratory testing products.
The Pentagon awarded Hologic a $94.2 million fixed-price contract for the next year, modifying a previously existing contract that is extended every year depending on performance. The contract asks Hologic to supply the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, and federal civilian agencies with an unspecified number of radiology systems, subsystems, and components.
According to the contract, Hologic will supply the required items by April 6, 2014, the current contract competition date. Presumably, the contract could be renewed until 2017, when the original seven-year agreement will come to an end.
Hologic is focused on diagnostic products, medical imaging systems and surgical products that serve women’s health.
