A collection of sights from the halls of Medica and Compamed taken during the 2018 event.
Medica 2018 kicked off with large crowds flooding into the halls on the first day of the event. Spanning four days, the event is the world’s largest showcase of medical technologies.
Many attendees headed for the CompaMed halls, which puts the spotlight on the supplier side of the industry. From vendors offering design services through to packaging and logistics as well as everything in between, it’s all on display in the split spaces of Halls 8A and 8B.
With Halls spanning from 3 through to the “temporary” structure of Hall 18, the focus areas range from Laboratory and Diagnostics, Physiotherapy and Orthopedic Technology, Commodities and Consumer Goods, Electromedical Equipment and Medical Technology, Information and Communication Technology, and national and international pavilion booths. There’s certainly something for everyone involved in the medical technology industry.
The D-EYE is a smartphone-based retinal imaging system. It will convert an iPhone into a digital direct ophthalmoscope, capable of recording and transmitting high-definition photos and videos of the fundus oculi for clinical assessment. The system enables regular screenings of the eye, providing information about noticeable eye diseases and capturing images for further evaluation of specific medical conditions.
Associate Editor Sam Brusco takes a moment to try out as much medical technology as he can. Here he "visits" the Philips surgical technologies showcase from the convenience of a chair at their booth and via virtual reality googles.
New technologies enable training, communication, and supervision through devices that leverage telehealth functionality alongside advanced devices that provide the necessary level of clinical support to physicians. Consulting with a colleague can be as simple as opening a new window on a tablet computer, giving them the opportunity to view a patient scan in real time from a remote location.
CareWear Wearable Therapeutics offers a solution it claims reduces pain, accelerates recovery, improves performance, and reduces joint stiffness. The company states it is the first wearable, wireless, FDA-registered LED light patch for athletes in all sports—on the training field, on the road, or even at home. With more than 5000 LEDs per patch, CareWear Light Patches start relieving pain and accelerating recovery in just 30 minutes.
Laboratory diagnostics technologies are advancing rapidly and on grand display at the Medica event. Get a better view of diseases or the latest test offerings for the home. Most of the innovations can be viewed in Halls 3, 3A, and 18.
