San Diego, Calif.-based has signed a five-year deal with ResMed to distribute the ResMed Stellar 100 and 150 non-invasive ventilators (NIV) and their related accessories into the U.S. institutional healthcare market. ResMed makes medical equipment of treating and diagnosing sleep-related disorders. CareFusion also will market and sell the Stellar 100 and 150 related accessories, including tubing and filters.
The ResMed Stellar 100 and 150 were cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.
CareFusion execs claim they now will have a more competitive offering in the institutional NIV market, which is expected to grow by more than 6 percent annually, they said. For ResMed, it provides a timely introduction of its new ventilation products via CareFusion’s long-standing relationships with U.S. hospitals, long-term acute care and skilled nursing facilities.
“The addition of ResMed’s Stellar ventilator fills an important need in the respiratory care market segment for our customers,” said Tony Lopez, senior vice president and general manager of Respiratory Care at CareFusion. “This strategic agreement also directly aligns with our mission to improve health care costs and quality care to patients.”
About CareFusion is a spin-off of Cardinal Health. Last year was its first full year as a standalone, publicly traded company. The company is most widely known for its infusion pumps.
