This position is responsible for all technical aspects of a development project from the point of research to full production capability including all milestones, product and performance specifications, project budget and schedule. Directs technical associates to achieve project, customer and business objectives.
1. Project team leader with the authority to execute within the boundaries of the project, and the accountability to deliver the results of a project in the context of agreed-upon internal or external customer expectations, commitment and constraints.
2. Coordinate and manage all aspects of projects from concept, quoting, product development, unit tooling, and commercialization.
3. Act as technical counterpart to the commercial leader (sales / account manager) and control all project aspects including cost, timeline, and specification related to product development projects.
4. Has responsibility for development, execution, and maintenance of a current project plan and decisions regarding the project within the overall envelope of approved time, cost and scope; can change strategy, approach or activity definitions to accomplish the same results within the same window.
5. Has authority to execute the project in order to reach the intended results. Has the power to enforce or influence behaviors or actions of the project team that are necessary to attain the results for which they are being held accountable.
6. Direct technical interface with customers - sole responsibility to develop and communicate time, cost, and deliverable project components, either direct or through the Account Manager.
7. Keep projects on time and within budget to meet deliverables while practicing intelligent risk management (such as FMEA) with consultation from team members, peers, and senior management.
8. Responsible for reporting deviations on time, cost, and deliverable project components to senior management.
9. Responsible for adherence to Berry Plastics, industry, and regulatory procedures.
10. Responsible for closing a project and conducting a post project review for the continuous improvement of Berry Plastics on future projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Material Science or Engineering.
2. Four to six years of experience.
3. Strong project management/organizational skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
4. Experience with food/ pharmaceutical industry standards, product development and documentation processes.
5. Experience with process engineering, tooling, design, injection, blow and thermoform molding.
6. Ability to travel as needed.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Experience in developing new processes and products for the packaging industry.
