MEDICA, mergers, Medtronic, and bubble mitigation were of particular interest this past week to MPO's cybervisitors.
Booth interviews with Integer and Teleflex Medical led the way in page views; each company was exhibiting at MEDICA and CompaMed, world's largest medical trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany. The four-day event offered professional audiences a comprehensive overview of the newest medical products and services for modern treatment in doctors’ offices and clinics, including all relevant process steps in product development and product manufacturing. The scope of novelties presented at MEDICA ranged from laboratory technology and equipment to physiotherapy and orthopedic technology, convenience goods and consumables, up to high-tech medical solutions (i.e. diagnostic imaging, robotics) and health IT applications. Microengineering, coatings and materials, sensors, packaging technology or complete processing of individual orders, too, were part of the main focus of Compamed.
Trailing behind the MEDICA show coverage was the Kindeva Drug Delivery (formerly 3M Drug Delivery Systems)-Meridian Medical Technologies merger. The move will create a new global drug-device combination product contract development and manufacturing organization that will provide expertise and tech in parenteral, inhalation, transdermal, and intradermal administration areas. The companies will continue to operate independently until the deal has closed.
Medtronic's launchof its Extended infusion generated website traffic as well. The first and only infusion set labelled for up to 7-day wear, the company's Extended Infusion set uses advanced materials that help reduce insulin preservative loss and maintain insulin flow and stability to double the wear time of an infusion set. Its designed leverages proprietary technology, including a new tubing connector that improves physical and chemical stability of insulin, the reliability of infusion site performance, and reduces the risk of infusion set occlusion.
An online exclusive about mitigating bubbles in microfluidics also attracted cybervisitors to the site. Written by Starfish Medical Microfluidics Manager Lorenzo Gutierrez, the article discusses potential sources of bubbles in microfluidics and recommended ways to mitigate them.
