Carlisle Interconnect Technologies (CIT), has acquired MicroConnex Corporation, a privately held manufacturer of highly engineered microminiature flex circuits for the medical and test and measurement markets. MicroConnex will operate under CIT’s Medical Technologies Business Unit known as Carlisle Medical Technologies (CMT), a developer active in the medical device cable and interconnect markets.
The acquisition aligns with CMT’s focus on expanding its platform of advanced technology capabilities to further enable highly-integrated devices that support critical and cost-effective performance requirements.
“With this acquisition, we are steps closer to fulfilling CMT’s vision to be the industry leader in the design, development and vertically-integrated manufacturing of advanced medical device solutions,” said Constantine Davlantes, vice president and general manager of Carlisle Medical Technologies.
MicroConnex brings deep technical expertise and process capabilities for developing custom precision flex circuits and hybrid electronics for medical catheters, ultrasound transducers, semiconductor tests and other applications requiring space-optimizing configurations with stringent tolerance requirements. MicroConnex’s highly specialized manufacturing processes include thin-film sputtering, laser ablation and precision laser micromachining.
“Our team is excited to partner with CIT to continue our focus on advanced technologies,” said Paul Henwood, president and CEO of MicroConnex. “The combination of MicroConnex and CIT will open new doors for MicroConnex to drive growth, innovation and product solutions within the medical and test and measurement markets. CIT is a great cultural fit with MicroConnex and we are excited to begin the next chapter in our company’s history.”
MicroConnex builds on CIT’s recent acquisition of redgroup, a company specializing in design and development of complex catheter technologies. Both acquisitions broaden Carlisle IT’s expertise and the value the company delivers to OEM customers.
MicroConnex is a supplier of quick turn prototypes bridging to small to medium size production of high-density flex circuits and laser micro-machining and thin film services. They easily incorporate smaller, lighter and more reliable flex circuits in product designs by using patented electrical technology, proprietary connective techniques, advanced laser processes, and thin-film sputtering capabilities. MicroConnex flex circuits are used in applications where lightweight, ultra-compact design and reliability are all critical.
Carlisle Medical Technologies specializes in the design, development and manufacture of custom cable assemblies and interconnect solutions for the medical device market. CMT’s core competencies revolve around industry-leading expertise in high performance interconnect systems for surgical, electrosurgical, interventional, and patient monitoring applications. In addition to its design and development expertise, product breadth, engineering, and qualification services, the company provides customers with service by offering localized customer support.
