Sotera Wireless, maker of the ViSi Mobile Surveillance Monitoring System and a pioneer in continuous vital signs monitoring, has appointed veteran engineering and operations executive Younes Achkire, Ph.D., as its new chief operating officer.
With a doctorate from the Free University of Brussels and post-doctorate from Caltech and backgrounds in engineering and applied sciences, Achkire brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from the semiconductor, solar, and medical industries. At Sotera he will assume responsibility for the R&D, operations, quality, and regulatory organizations.
“With over 400,000 preventable hospital deaths per year, it is clear that early detection of patient deterioration matters. Younes’ experience in mechanical design, system integration, and new product development makes him uniquely qualified to lead and shape Sotera’s technology and portfolio strategies as the company continues its mission of reinforcing surveillance monitoring as the new standard of care for patient monitoring in general care floor units where many patients are unmonitored continuously and face their biggest risk of complications,1” said Francis Chen, CEO of Sotera Wireless.
Achkire was recently vice president of Engineering and Operations at Foxconn Health Technology Business Group, focused on creating a business model of “Precision Medicine, Smart Health” to be deployed globally. Prior to Foxconn, he was the co-founder, chief technology officer, and vice president of Zap Surgical Systems, where he led technology and manufacturing from development and conceptual design to production of a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved high precision medical radiosurgery device to treat pathology of the head and neck.
Sotera Wireless Inc. is a San Diego-based company committed to the development, marketing, and sale of a new generation early detection surveillance monitoring system. Its flagship product, the ViSi Mobile, is designed to improve patient safety by detecting early signs of deterioration in virtually any care setting, enabling early intervention and rapid response without limiting the patient's freedom of movement.
Sotera and ViSi Mobile are registered trademarks of Sotera Wireless Inc.
