St. Louis, Mo.-based Biomedical Systems Corp., which makes centralized pulmonary function testing technology, has expanded its of our scientific affairs team with the addition of Wilfried De Backer, M.D., Ph.D. He joins the company as a pulmonary consultant.
With more than 25 years of experience, De Backer is recognized globally for his extensive expertise in pulmonary and respiratory medicine. He is the director of the department of pulmonary medicine and professor of respiratory medicine at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. De Backer has served for nearly three decades as a member of the European Respiratory Society, where he has held the positions of secretary and chair of the working group on control of breathing, later sleep. He holds the position as chair high council commission of medical education in Belgium and currently is the pulmonary expert for the European Medicine Agency.
De Backer’s research contributions include the areas of control of breathing, acute lung injury, sleep and breathing, functional diagnostics, and toxicology of inhaled particles. An acknowledged expert in the field of pulmonary diagnostics, he has published over 200 articles and is a frequent industry speaker.
