Bovie Medical Corp. has hired Mark Charbonneau as product development manager for one of its primary product lines—the J-Plasma, which is used for cutting and coagulation.
J-Plasma uses a helium ionization process to produce a stable, focused beam of ionized gas that provides surgeons with—according to the company—greater precision, minimal invasiveness and an absence of conductive currents through the patient during surgery. Bovie Medical makes a range of electrosurgical products and technologies, marketed through private labels and the company’s own brands (Bovie, Aaron, IDS and Icon).
Prior to joining Bovie, Charbonneau was an engineering manager for Centrix and senior manufacturing engineer for Ventripoint Diagnostics. Previously, he worked in senior engineering roles at companies including Cenorin, Archus Orthopedics and Salient Surgical Technologies. He brings more than 14 years of experience to Bovie and received a B.S. in engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
“This hire is part of our broader strategy to expand a highly-credentialed team to accelerate the adoption of J-Plasma,” said Robert L. Gershon, CEO. “Mark comes to Bovie Medical with a proven track record in new medical device roll-outs, product design and a strong technical background.”
Charbonneau reports to Shawn Roman, director of research and development.
Bovie is based in Clearwater, Fla.
