Privately held On-X Life Technologies Inc. has launched a new mitral valve chordal repair system.
Mitral valve repair is ideal for many patients and has gained general acceptance among heart surgeons in the United States and around the world. Approximately 60,000 procedures are performed annually in the United States, according to industry statistics. The procedure generally has been performed with the help of an annuloplasty ring but in recent years some surgeons have used ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) sutures to create artificial chords, a subvalvular structure of the mitral valve. Data suggest that repair of the valve annulus in combination with chordal repair is ideal for many patients.
On-X Life's Chord-X Mitral Valve Chordal Repair System features:
"We are pleased to provide surgeons with tools designed to help make mitral valve chordal replacement more reproducible and save OR time. We are appreciative of the excellent team of surgeons who have helped design this product and for our product development team which produced this device," On-X Life CEO Clyde Baker said.
Based in Austin, Texas, On-X Life Technologies manufactures artifical heart valve replacement and repair products. On-X aortic and mitral prosthetic valves are U.S. Food and Drug Administration- approved and have been safely implanted in approximately 200,000 patients worldwide, according to the company.
