Fort Worth, Texas-based contract manufacturer CoorsTek Medical has acquired medical device manufacturer Nanosurfaces Industries Srl of Bologna, Italy.
NSI was the manufacturing division of SAMO, an orthopedic OEMs. As part of the agreement, CoorsTek Medical will add the newly restructured SAMO and SAMO Italia to the roster of medical device OEMs for which it manufactures.
After a brief transition period, the Nanosurfaces Industries name will be retired and the Bologna operations will fully adopt the CoorsTek Medical brand, CoorsTek officials said.
The new CoorsTek Medical entity establishes a European presence for the company with a 25,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bologna. The facility brings CoorsTek Medical a complete manufacturing operation for orthopedic and dental implants and related instruments. Additional synergies with CoorsTek Medical will include the expansion of CoorsTek Medical’s manufacturing competencies through Bologna’s surface modification technology capabilities such as Type I and II anodization.
“CoorsTek is a widely known and well respected brand in Europe, providing strong support for CoorsTek Medical’s expansion in the European medical device sector,” said Jonathan Coors, CEO of CoorsTek Medical. “CoorsTek Medical’s acquisition of NSI gives us direct access to a large and growing European medical device marketplace in addition to increasing CoorsTek Medical’s manufacturing capacity, expertise, and capabilities. They are a great fit for CoorsTek and CoorsTek Medical.”
CoorsTek Medical was formed recently via the combination of IMDS, a Fort Worth-based medical device company CoorsTek purchased in 2013 and C5 Medical Werks of Grand Junction, Colo., which was owned by the Coors family.
Golden, Colo.-based CoorsTek, Inc. is a privately owned manufacturer of technical ceramics, semiconductor tooling, plastic tubing, medical devices and other industrial products..
