Pleasant Prairie, Wis.-based Kelpac Medical, a division of PPC Industries, has acquired a "major capital position" in Apollo Medical Extrusion of Sandy, Utah.
Kelpac Medical is a manufacturer and supplier of custom thermoplastic medical tubing and medical packaging, with seven locations worldwide. Apollo Medical Extrusion is an extruder of micro-bore tubing, catheter tubing and multi-lumen tubing of complex geometries and tight tolerances.
According to Kelpac officials, the strategic alliance between the companies "opens up new markets and manufacturing locations for Apollo Medical Extrusion, while allowing Kelpac Medical to increase its product offerings to a worldwide customer base."
Jan Boyd, director of marketing and business development for Kelpac Medical told MPO that Kelpac "partners with Apollo financially" but that Apollo will continue to run as a standalone business.
"The strategic alliance is to enable Apollo to grow inside and outside of the United States and for Kelpac to enter an adjacent space—thin-walled and microbore tubing—where we do not currently have the capabilities," Boyd said.
Apollo works with medical balloon manufacturers and customers that are developing cardiovascular, neurovascular, diabetes management and dialysis catheters.
Kelpac Medical provides outsourced custom thermoplastic medical-grade tubing and custom packaging solutions, with manufacturing facilities in North and Central America, Asia and Europe.
