Cantel Medical Corp., a Little Falls, N.J.-based infection control company, has purchased a western New York maker of products used to monitor sterilization processes as the company extends its acquisition push.
Cantel purchased Sterilator Co. of Cuba, N.Y., through its Crosstex subsidiary. Sterilator serves both the medical and industrial markets, and has been a supplier of products to Cantel's dental and hospital health-care disposable business.
Gary Steinberg, president and chief executive officer of Crosstex, said Sterilator's leaders will remain with Cantel. Cantel did not release financial details of the purchase.
"This acquisition further enhances our capabilities as a leading provider of sterility assurance monitoring products to the medical industry,'' Andrew Krakauer, president and CEO of Cantel Medical, said in a statement. "This addition strengthens our product development capabilities."
Cantel has made a number of purchases in recent years, and said it will continue to look for acquisitions worldwide. The most recent deal, announced in November 2013, was for Jet Prep Ltd., an Israeli company that makes a device to improve visual quality during colonoscopies. Other recent purchases include Siemens' dialysis water-purification business and a sterilization company called SPSmedical of Rochester, N.Y.
The company said it hopes to expand overseas, especially in China, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia.
Cantel's products include medical device reprocessing systems for endoscopy and renal dialysis, advanced water purification equipment, sterilants, disinfectants and cleaners, disposable infection control products primarily for dental and gastrointestinal endoscopy markets, dialysate concentrates, filtration and separation products, and specialty packaging for infectious and biological specimens.
