Minneapolis, Minn.-based Medtronic Inc. has received the CE mark for its Sentrant introducer sheath, a new addition to the company’s portfolio of stent grafts for the endovascular repair of aortic aneurysms and related conditions. The sheath will be released internationally “soon,” according to the company.
The Sentrant Introducer Sheath is designed for use with Medtronic’s Endurant II AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) and Valiant Captivia stent graft systems, and also can be used with similar devices for endovascular repair. Inserted at the access site in the patient’s femoral artery, the tapered tube is advanced up into the iliac arteries to facilitate the implant procedure, designed to enable smooth passage of the stent graft delivery system and accessory devices en route to the aorta treatment site.
According to the company, the sheath’s reinforced coil is kink resistant. The device reportedly is flexible with a hydrophilic coating to facilitate tracking through tortuous and calcified iliacs; has a radiopaque marker band for clear visibility; and a dilator locking mechanism for secure positioning.
The Sentrant introducer sheath is made in diameters of 12-26 French and lengths of 28 cm and 64 cm. The sheath expands Medtronic’s accessories toolkit for endovascular aortic interventions.
Medtronic makes medical devices in a wide range of segments.
