Fall River, Mass.-based Millstone Medical Outsourcing now will provide freezer storage and cold chain distribution services for customers’ biologic products from its facility in Memphis, Tenn.
Millstone Medical’s Memphis operation already is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-registered and state-licensed human tissue bank, authorized to store and distribute human tissue and bone products. Beginning next year, Millstone will offer cold chain product management services to answer a growing need for customers to be able to document validated cold chain integrity and compliance for their biologic product shipments.
Millstone also provides advanced inspection, clean room packaging, loaner kit processing, and distribution services to medical and dental device manufacturers worldwide.
To meet customer demand, Millstone Medical purchased ThermoFischer freezers capable of maintaining temperatures as low as -80 Celsius. The freezers currently are undergoing validation procedures and are expected to be operational by the end of the year. The freezers will be located in Memphis as an extension of the existing ambient tissue service.
“Millstone is committed to investing in equipment, services, and personnel in order to meet the needs of our customers,” said Chris Ramsden, Millstone's CEO. “Our customers are under increasing pressure to consolidate supply chains and use expert outsourcing partners to deliver services of the highest quality. Our addition of the cold chain and distribution service is designed to help our customers achieve efficiencies and compliance without compromising quality.”
