CareFusion, based in San Diego, Calif., has sold its European-based surgical products distribution division to Medline Industries for $130 million, the companies said Thursday.
The surgical products business, located in Rolle, Switzerland, employs more than 850 people in 16 European and Asian-Pacific countries and generated about $440 million in sales last year.
It’s main products include surgical drapes, gowns, trays and gloves.
The sale, according to the company, will let CareFusion focus on expanding its core product lines, which include automated medication delivery systems, infusion pumps, ventilators and other hospital devices, in foreign markets.
Privately held Medline, based in the northern suburbs of Chicago, Ill., sells more than 100,000 products to hospitals, nursing homes and doctors’ offices.
“Medline is an ideal fit for our International Surgical Products employees and customers,” said David Schlotterbeck, CareFusion’s former chairman and CEO, who will retire on Feb. 28.
CareFusion’s total revenue in fiscal 2010 was $3.9 billion.
