Tronics said the acquisition implements its strategy to strengthen the Crolles, France-based company's position in the United States and in the medical device sector.
"This acquisition accelerates our expansion in the United States and MedTech Development will enable us to introduce our technologies into medical customer products during the design-in phase, at a more strategic level," confirmed Peter Pfluger, CEO of Tronics Microsystems.
By combining both companies' technologies and experience, Tronics said it expects to develop more sophisticated specialized medical devices. Indeed, Tronics and MedTech specified that they target a market in which medical applications need an ever increasing amount of integration of highly miniaturized transducers and electronics.
Tronics and MedTech said they have collaborated for two years to supply a large medical corporation with the design and development of an implantable sub-system that includes a custom MEMS-component.
MedTech said it employs 15 senior electrical, mechanical, software, device communication engineers and project managers, with extensive experience in medical device applications. It has an office in Minneapolis, MN.
Among other design projects, MedTech cited external and implantable neural-stimulation devices and telemedicine solutions for management of chronic diseases.
