Market for these products is expected to grow 5 percent through 2025.

The necessity to screen and monitor functionality of vital organs, such as the lungs and heart of COVID-19 patients and limiting the exposure of frontline staff to infection during treatment, is driving the demand for handheld ultrasound (HHU) devices in China. The HHU devices market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5 percent between 2020 and 2025 in China, forecasts GlobalData, a worldwide data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, "Ultrasound Systems (Diagnostic Imaging) – Global Market Analysis and Forecast Model (COVID-19 Market Impact)," reveals that patient’s preference for minimally invasive procedures and faster ways to assess the respiratory status of COVID-19 patients is driving the HHU devices market in China.

Gundreddy Gopinadh, a medical devices analyst at GlobalData, said: “Physicians in emergency departments and in intensive care units are preferring to use HHU devices in order to make faster and accurate diagnosis of lung damage, cardiac and kidney abnormalities, which is critical in treating COVID-19 patients.”

The HHU device is battery operated and can be used outside hospitals and clinics. Since the device is non-invasive, economical, easy to handle and does not require highly skilled healthcare professionals to operate it, this makes it be an important tool in treating patients in rural areas and mobile healthcare facilities.

“Installations of HHU devices is increasing as healthcare facilities are preparing themselves for growing infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Additionally, a shifting trend towards home healthcare and remote patient monitoring is expected to boost the HHU devices market in China,” Gopinadh said.
