Velcro Medical Division Introduces Anti-Bacterial Fasteners and Catheter PatchesPosted on June 22, 2012 @ 10:06 am“We are extremely pleased to have worked with Xpert Panel’s nurses to develop these two innovations that solve challenges faced by medical caregivers every day,” said Frank Jaeger, Velcro’s European Medical Division manager. “In our more than 50 year history, the Velcro Companies has created hundreds of hook and loop solutions and best-in-class products for leading medical companies worldwide. We see tremendous value in our ability to offer customers new solutions based on specific end-user feedback.” The Velcro fasteners were enhanced using specialized, antibacterial silver treatment to help reduce the risk of cross-contamination. This also is intended to create safer treatment environments in hospitals and emergency areas where equipment is often used by multiple patients. The antibacterial product range is available in black and white, and features woven hook and loop and plastic hook and fastening components in specifications that are ideal for use in blood pressure cuffs, X-ray cloth, deep vein thrombosis, patient positioning straps, and operating table cushion fastening. The antibacterial properties of the new fasteners also help reduce odor, the company claims, a benefit for long-term use and in active products such as continuous passive motion and rehabilitation braces. The fasteners are fully washable. The catheter securement system is touted to be strong, dust-resistant, and easily adjustable. The adhesives on the patches are designed to be skin-friendly, and are available in several formulations optimized according to skin type and application (such as for children or long-term use). The patches have a low profile, which the company asserts reduces complications from accidental displacement. The catheter securement system also features an adhesive surface beneath then needle, allowing the patch to secure needles of various sizes. The product is customizable with color and branding options. The system is intended for use in drains, IVs, feeding tubes and most types of catheters. The Velcro Companies have global manufacturing facilities; the fasteners will be produced by its Barcelona, Spain, operation. The company’s U.S headquarters is located in Manchester, N.H. |
