Scientific instrument maker Varian Inc. will work with GE Healthcare  on a new magnetic resonance imaging system.

The two businesses will work together to develop an advanced imager using Varian’s magnets, positioning devices and other technology. GE will supply electronics, user interfaces and software.

The device is a 7T magnetic resonance imaging system meant for pre-clinical use. Varian is based in Palo Alto, CA.

GE Healthcare is a unit of General Electric Co., based in Chalfont St. Giles, United Kingdom. GE itself is based in Fairfield, CT.

The two companies did not disclose financial details of the agreement.
