As part of the world's largest medical trade fair, Medica, 130,000 specialists, 60 percent of them international visitors, find out about innovations and further developments in all areas of outpatient and inpatient care. 5,000 exhibitors from 66 nations present themselves at Medica 2017.

Nine-hundred exhibitors showcased the latest innovations in laboratory technology and diagnostics at Medica 2017, taking place Nov. 13-16 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Laboratory medicine has become such a popular topic at the trade fair that organizers added a LABMED Forum to the lineup this year. Each day of the forum focused on a different topic, with the kickoff day exploring the possibility of diagnosing cancer from blood.

A focal point of the world's largest medical fair Medica are medical devices and products. 2,500 exhibitors (more than 5,000 in total) offer innovations in medical technology and electromedicine. ArmAssist is a low-cost portable device to rehabilitate upper limbs in patients who have suffered neuromuscular diseases or ictus. The system uses a mobile base to record shoulder and elbow movements, and monitors patients’ improvements. There is a tele-rehabilitation platform that enables the real-time.

Malignant tumors often form metastases that spread throughout the body via the lymph node system. Being able to determine the exact location of such nodes, and then removing them completely, requires a lot of operational skill from doctors. Fraunhofer researchers have developed a navigation aid that simplifies the procedure for medical professionals: '3D-ARILE' is an augmented reality (AR) system that virtually fades in the exact position of the lymph node via smart glasses. The new development is being presented for the first time at Medica 2017.

The Medicon “Ti-Epiplating system” includes a series of implants which were specifically developed for the bone-anchoring of craniofacial prosthesis and hearing aids. These were exactly adapted to the anatomy of different areas of the skull, like eye, nose, or ear.

The occurrence of sudden cardiac arrest cannot be prevented. But the consequences can! The person affected has only a few precious minutes left for a chance of survival. The HeartSave (AED/PAD) only delivers an electric shock if life-threatening fibrillation is actually detected. Easy-to-understand voice prompts guide the user through the rescue sequence, thus eliminating the possibility of the device being operated incorrectly.
