Phoenix, Ariz.-based Flexpak Corporation has entered an exclusive sales and distribution agreement for thermoformed product with TriMedEx LLC. The partnership will help Flexpak expand its business in the Tijuana, Mexico medical device market, which has been growing rapidly.
“TriMedEx gives Flexpak excellent sales coverage, strategic support, Mexico-based warehousing and supply chain management expertise to service and to compete in this growth market,” said Steve Murray, president of Flexpak. “Tom Flannery (founder and partner of TriMedEx) and his team have set up and run successful multimillion-dollar medical device operations in this market and will provide Flexpak with a powerful presence in the region.”
Flexpak has capabilities in the design, development and manufacturing of sterile and non-sterile barrier thermoformed packaging for the medical device industry. Besides Tijuana, the partnership with TriMedEx also will help Flexpak reach the San Diego area of southern California. The ultimate value proposition of warehousing in Tijuana is to reduce inventory, space requirements and transit lead times for Flexpak’s customers.
“Flexpak truly understands how to deliver design solutions, process controls and the validated state required to be successful in the demanding and cost conscientious medical device industry,” said Flannery. “This is just the first step toward full-scale medical device thermoforming operations in Tijuana for Flexpak.”
Last year, the Tijuana Economic Development Corporation (also known as Tijuana EDC) was represented at a major medical device exhibition as a leader in medical device manufacturing.
“After looking at other metro-regions of the United States and Canada, we can say that with an employment base of over 31,000 people, Tijuana’s nearly 40 medical device companies employ more manufacturing workers than any other city in North America,” said David Mayagoitia, chairman of the Tijuana EDC.
According to the Tijuana EDC, the Baja, Calif., medical device cluster is comprised of more than 65 firms with more than 40,000 employees representing Mexico’s largest concentration of medtech companies and employment.
Flexpak Corporation operates a fully integrated and registered ISO 9001:2008 manufacturing facility. Besides thermoformed packaging, the company also offers services as design engineering, prototyping, tool fabrication, process management and validation services, controlled manufacturing environment, statistical analysis, and supply chain management, including extensive Maquiladora experience.
