During the course of this year, Janco Inc. plans to systematically add to the company’s medical manufacturing capabilities. In the works are improvements to CNC (computer numerical control) and pressure forming equipment, as well as new capabilities for manufacturing with Volara and Voltek foams, specialty foams suited for medical devices and packaging.
“Innovation is a prerequisite when you’re involved with medical and healthcare markets,” said company spokesperson Tim McGonagle. “The medical industry is constantly introducing new technologies and developing smaller and more effective devices. As a provider of medical packaging and medical manufacturing, it’s our job to keep pace. Part of that means enhancing our capabilities so we can deliver the solutions the industry needs.”
Improved medical manufacturing capabilities, particularly pertaining to pressure forming and foam molding, will allow Janco to more effectively and competitively provide products such as device packaging, foam inserts, procedure trays, and orthopedic supports with greater detail, textures, contours, and undercuts.
Volara is a fine-celled, irradiation cross-linked foam made by Lawrence, Mass.-based Sekisui Voltek LLC. Its properties include a smooth surface, gauge control, and low water absorption and vapor transmission. It is also nontoxic and contains no CFC, HCFC, or hydrocarbon blowing agents, according to Sekisui.
Janco provides custom medical manufacturing and other fabricated plastic products and components to OEMs in the United States.
