Over the past several months, members of the staff of Medivative Technologies LLC and outside contractors have been working diligently to completely renovate the firm's “Medivative North” building in Indianapolis, Ind.
While the exterior has only received a cosmetic upgrade, the interior was gutted to the basic structure and rebuilt with world class performance in mind. The 14,000-square-foot building will soon become the manufacturing facility for a life-saving medical device that Medivative has helped develop over the last four years. The device was developed for a Medivative customer that has recently partnered with one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.
The executive management team made the decision to build the facility in such a way that it leaves little doubt about our capabilities and our mind set. The layout was designed to maximize floor space while complimenting our efforts to implement Lean manufacturing practices. State-of-the-art equipment was purchased to help us achieve these goals.
Among the many tasks necessary to complete this enormous project is the need to “validate” the facility. Validation requires analysis of data from many different monitoring devices that have been included in the building design. As the finishing touches are being implemented, a team of employees is dedicating hundreds of hours to documenting every last nuance—a key component to receiving approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In the coming months, Medivative North will receive additional injection molding machines and a custom built automated assembly line in preparation for product launch. The assembly line will include 19 robots, countless sensors used for quality checks, vision systems, laser marking, ultrasonic welding, etc. and the production capacity will eventually be 6 million devices per year. In the end, the total build time for this cutting edge machine will be approximately one year.
The preparation for this project has been and will continue to be a significant accomplishment for Medivative and parent company Aircom.
