Foster Corporation, part of the PolyMedex Discovery Group, is pleased to announce the appointment of William Smith as sales manager for custom polymer compounds. In his new role, Smith will lead Foster’s strategic initiatives to continue as a leading supplier of custom compounds for minimally invasive medical devices and to expand into other critical, non-invasive healthcare markets. He will manage the company’s entire sales organization and product portfolio mix, while working closely with key global customers to develop new products and applications.
“We are delighted to have William on board at this exciting time in our development and he will be a key addition to the management team,” said Larry Acquarulo, CEO of Putman, Conn.-based Foster Corporation. “He brings a wealth of technical and sales experience in the plastics industry, with a proven track record of increasing brand awareness and growing business.”
Foster provides polymers for catheters and other minimally invasive devices. In recent years, the company has experienced growth in non-invasive medical applications such as wound care and device handles that require very consistent color control in the polymer compounds. Smith will lead the company’s organization to grow into these new application areas.
Prior to joining Foster, Smith was technical and sales manager for Business Line Plastics at Clariant Corporation in Coventry, R.I., where he managed specialty chemical products for the plastics market. He has B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA in from Bryant University.
