For virtually everyone in the U.S., November marks the beginning of winter, shorter days, decreasing temperatures, and Thanksgiving. For those involved with medical device development and manufacturing, it’s also the month for the Medica and CompaMed trade shows in Dusseldorf, Germany. While last year’s event seemed to bring the crowd’s back following the COVID-induced hiatus, this year may be a more true return to form.
With this in mind, I reached out to a number of companies who will be exhibiting at the show to find out directly from them what they are showing off or focusing on at the event, what challenges customers have brought them, and where they see their role within the industry in aiding medical device manufacturers. Tackling these questions as well as a couple others, Morgan Leray, Sr. director, international sales & marketing at Teleflex Medical OEM, shared a few insights to help you determine if the firm should be a potential services partner for you in 2024 or beyond.
Sean Fenske: What technology or service are you emphasizing at Medica/CompaMed this year?
Morgan Leray: Teleflex Medical OEM is emphasizing our EPIC Medtec Centers and the IDEA Medtec Process. This unique process allows us to partner with our customers early in the concept phase to expedite their device development process, while helping them manage cost and reduce technical risk.
Fenske: What’s the most common challenge customers inquire about and how do you address it?
Leray: Resource constraints. Our customers can partner with our multi-disciplinary team of device development experts and utilize our proprietary analytical tools to get their devices to market quicker. We can also integrate our design for manufacturability expertise into each stage of development to get their device to production faster.
Fenske: If you could give one piece of advice to companies seeking a manufacturing partner before they make a decision, what would it be?
Leray: Select a volume-driven manufacturer that has the capacity to deliver large volumes globally. Teleflex Medical OEM has manufacturing facilities both in the United States and internationally.
Fenske: What are the forces driving medical device manufacturers to seek your technology/services over doing it in-house?
Leray: Our team of highly-qualified engineers, material and polymer experts, and skilled technicians. You can count on us to enhance your design, develop functional prototypes, and scale up for manufacturing. Teleflex Medical OEM offers you a true, full-service partnership with the vertically integrated resources to get your project off the drawing board and into the market.
Fenske: In what ways is your company able to aid in getting a product (project) to market faster?
Leray: At one of our three EPIC (Engineering, Prototyping, Innovation, Collaboration) Medtec Centers, customers collaborate with our seasoned engineers to take a project from ideation to a market-ready device. During this session, we identify opportunities, address challenges, and find solutions. We drive design for manufacturability while reducing technical risks, controlling costs, and delivering a market-ready device to market quickly.
Teleflex Medical OEM is located at Medica/Compamed in Hall 8A, Booth/Stand L27.
