Zimmer Holdings Inc. is establishing a new research and development center in Beijing, China. The company shared the news during the Chinese Orthopaedic Association International Congress, which kicked off on Dec. 1.
Executives said the center will help the company create and provide a network of research and development programs throughout the Asia region.
"The Asia-Pacific region offers significant growth opportunities in both established and emerging markets," Zimmer President and CEO David C. Dvorak said. "Investment in local research and development represents a critical component of Zimmer's long-term strategy to provide clinically-relevant offerings for Asian markets."
Zimmer's Beijing-based research and development center will collaborate with local engineers and healthcare professionals to develop innovative products and technologies that meet the unique needs of Asian patients and their healthcare providers. Co-locating the center with Zimmer's existing operations in Beijing further strengthens the company's position in one of the fastest growing countries in the region, executives noted.
