Trelleborg Healthcare and Medical has invested in a new production facility for medical technology solutions in Costa Rica. The facility will offer a full range of engineered polymer solutions within the healthcare and medical markets.
The new facility will be Trelleborg’s first facility in Central America. It covers a 10,000 square meter area and will be located near many international customers with operations in the region. The Group will invest approximately $225 million in the expansion between 2024 and 2025.
“Costa Rica has evolved into a medical technology hub in Central America and the facility therefore represents an important step in both increasing our capacity and broadening our geographical footprint in healthcare & medical,” said president and CEO Peter Nilsson. “The facility is being built for customers with global sales, and the capacity it will add will also benefit Baron Group, the Australian-Chinese company we recently signed an agreement to acquire. Trelleborg’s know-how combined with Baron’s technology will provide the basis for the new facility.”
The facility is being built in Grecia near the port and international airport. It will feature cleanroom production and will be designed to meet industry-specific standards for medical device manufacturing. Trelleborg will also follow efficient and sustainable production processes at the building and will be Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certified.
