New products and purchases prompted a profusion of pageviews on MPO's website this past week.
Medtronic took the lead with news of FDA approval for its next-gen SynchroMed III intrathecal drug delivery system for chronic pain, cancer pain, and severe spasticity. SynchroMed III is a targeted drug delivery platform that delivers medication directly to spinal cord fluid. The upgraded system features a new “refill only” physician workflow, improved electronics with firmware that can be upgraded after implantation, and further cybersecurity protections.
The other new product of interest came from Junkosha, which unveiled at MD&M Minneapolis its new range of FEP Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing. Available in varioud cut-to-length options, the tubing is designed to enable a wide range of large-sized catheter-based procedures where ease of manufacture is the key requirement.
Acquisition news of interest was provided by Getinge and Haemonetics. The former bought instrument care and infection control consumables provider Healthmark Industries for $320 million, while the latter acquired cardiology technology developer OpSens for $253 million.
Cybervisitors also couldn't resist reading about the legal troubles of a California woman who pleaded guilty to defrauding the U.S. government during the COVID-19 pandemic by ordering expensive and medically unnecessary respiratory pathogen panel tests. She faces a maximum 20-year prison term at her sentencing in January.
