GE HealthCare has launched Vscan Air SL, a handheld, wireless ultrasound imaging system for rapid cardiac and vascular assessments at the point of care.
Vscan Air SL fetures the company’s proprietary SignalMax and XDclear technology for high levels of penetration, resolution, and sensitive in imaging performance. It also contains single crystal transducer technology.
Using Vscan Air SL, according to GE HealthCare, clinicians can efficiently collect crystal clear cardiac and vascular images at the point of care. By avoiding overloading traditional radiology resources, care decisions can be expedited so patients can receive treatment plans right away.
“Having ever more powerful handheld ultrasound is a game changer for patient care,” Guy Lloyd, MD, FRCP, consultant cardiologist at Barts Heart Center, University College London Hospitals and clinical director for Cardiovascular Diagnostics and Investigations, told the press. “Whether on the ward or in general practice, being able to provide high-quality imaging at the point of care means rapid diagnosis and rapid treatment.”
The pocket-sized, portable tool allows clear, whole-body scanning and secure image viewing. Vscan Air+ Digital Tools offer access to subscriptions to be connected to a suite of solutions for secure collaboration, image, and device management features.
“Vscan Air SL enables clinicians to make quick cardiac assessments and adds to our broad portfolio of ultrasound technologies to help further inform clinical decision making at the point of care,” said Dietmar Seifriedsberger, Global General Manager, Point of Care and Handheld Ultrasound at GE HealthCare. “This newest innovation demonstrates our commitment to providing integrated solutions resulting in better standard of care delivery — and ultimately helping clinicians improve patient outcomes.”
GE HealthCare introduced the first Vscan color pocket-sized ultrasound in 2010. In 2021, the company revealed Vscan Air CL, which the company said is one of the smallest and most lightweight handheld ultrasound devices.
Vscan Air SL is commercially available in key European and Asian countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand. It’s 510(k)-cleared in the U.S. and will become commercially available this quarter, according to GE HealthCare.
