DirectMed Parts & Service LLC has acquired ScanMed LLC, an MRI coil designer, manufacturer, and repair firm. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“For over 10 years ScanMed has been our go-to vendor for the most complicated MRI coil repairs. All of us at DirectMed are delighted to partner with Dr. Jones and his team of physicists, electrical engineers, RF repair technicians, and customer support personnel," DirectMed President/CEO Brad de Koning said. "There will be no changes to the ScanMed brand, the Omaha operation, or their commitment to their entire healthcare client base.”
Founded in 2004 and based in Omaha, Neb., ScanMed is an OEM-certified MRI coil company that designs and repairs thousands of different MRI coils for GE Healthcare, Siemens, Philips, and Canon/Toshiba systems, amongst others. The company’s proprietary coils include the Procure prostate coil, pediatric blanket and brain coils, spine, vascular, and several extremity coils. ScanMed was founded by Dr. Randall Jones, an nnovator with a doctorate in electrical engineering, and 30 years of experience in medical imaging. Dr. Jones—ScanMed's CEO—and his team have been awarded 12 design patents and developed numerous trade secrets, enabling ScanMed to be the foremost MRI depot-level coil repair partner for healthcare networks, independent service organizations and diagnostic imaging parts suppliers.
Both ScanMed and DirectMed are certified and compliant with ISO 13485:2016, the quality management system that meets the most rigorous regulations for the medical device marketplace.
“Combining DirectMed’s parts inventory, financial resources, and global distribution with ScanMed’s MRI coil products and repair services produces ‘wins all around’ for our companies and clients,” Jones said. “Our strategic plan included building ScanMed’s MRI coil distribution and repair footprint in Europe. With DirectMed’s Danish subsidiary LBN Medical ApS, that vision will now come true, thus bringing the best of the U.S. to Europe.”
“Partnering with ScanMed greatly expands our MRI coil repair and supply capabilities," added Tanner LoRusso, Sales vice president for DirectMed. "Moreover, this partnership will materially expand our technical support capabilities for our end-customers, the field service engineers and biomedical engineers. Lastly, ScanMed directly supports our mission to extend the life of medical imaging equipment to improve access, reduce waste, and lower healthcare costs.”
DirectMed is an aftermarket diagnostic imaging parts, systems, and service provider. With more than 60,000 parts in stock, the company repairs, supports and sells GE, Siemens, Philips and Canon/Toshiba MRI and CT parts to healthcare networks, imaging centers and independent service organizations (“ISOs”) around the world. DirectMed also owns LBN Medical ApS, based in Aalborg, Denmark, a reseller of aftermarket medical imaging equipment and parts to customers around the world. LBN Medical supplies more than 15 brands, including major OEMs such as Canon, GE, Siemens, and Philips.
