Tegra Medical has expanded its manufacturing footprint at its locations in Mississippi and Costa Rica.
In Hernando, Miss., the company expanded its GENESIS Tech Center product development support with a new dedicated facility. The 3,200-square-foot building is dedicated exclusively to medical device prototyping and development. The facility is staffed with engineers and production personnel, and is equipped with the same types of manufacturing machines used for production. The core competencies of the Hernando facility include 4- and 5-axis CNC milling, CNC Swiss machining, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and gundrilling.
The devices manufactured in the new GENESIS Tech Center space include implants and instruments used in complex spinal and trauma procedures, as well as instruments for large joint and extremities reconstruction. Product development support is being managed by Tracy Fancher, who has worked at Tegra Medical for 15 years, most recently as senior applications engineer.
Cost Rica, with its strong talent base, has helped Tegra Medical form a strong presence outside the United States. There, the company responded to growing customer demand by adding a 27,000-square-foot building that includes a new 5,000-square-foot Class 8 cleanroom for molding and assembly. This augments the existing Class 7 cleanroom. Besides the second cleanroom, manufacturing capabilities in the new space will include machining, EDM, grinding, molding, and stamping, and will contribute to products such as insert-molded women's devices and insert-molded devices and assemblies for sports medicine, neurovascular, and critical care fluid monitoring.
"Tegra Medical understands that launching a new product is a big commitment for our customers," CEO and President J. Mark King said. "Our investment in GENESIS Tech Center services in Hernando extends our product development capabilities and cements our reputation as the company where medical devices come to life. Likewise, by growing our operations in Costa Rica, we're ensuring that we're well-positioned to meet the growing customer demand for premium device manufacturing in that area."
Tegra Medical provides end-to-end medtech solutions, from prototyping and full production to complex components and finished devices. The company creates devices used in surgical, interventional, and orthopedic procedures. Tegra Medical has more than 230,000 square feet of product space in four locations in the United States and Costa Rica. It is ISO 13485:2003 certified, U.S. Food and Drug Administration-registered, and QSR compliant.
