The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) announced that Shandi Barney has joined the organization as vice president and sector lead, radiation therapy.
Barney will lead the association’s newly created Radiation Therapy Sector, which will address the regulatory and payment challenges facing this growing area of medtech innovation, and promote the benefits and value of RT, including radiotherapy, brachytherapy and proton therapy.
“Shandi is a terrific addition to the AdvaMed team,” said Andrew Fish, AdvaMed senior executive vice president. “She has in-depth knowledge in the area of radiation therapy, which is providing safe and effective solutions for patients afflicted with devastating conditions, especially cancers. Shandi’s experience in this area – from Medicare to coalition building – will serve our new RT Sector well in developing an advocacy agenda that helps ensure patient access to these technologies and fosters continued innovation.”
The Radiation Therapy Sector joins AdvaMed’s other technology-specific sectors: Orthopedics, Ophthalmics, and Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration. In addition, the association’s AdvaMedDx and AdvaMed Accel divisions serve the needs of its diagnostics and emerging growth sector companies.
Previously, Barney was senior congressional relations manager for the American Society for Radiation Oncology, where she was the lead advocate on issues including cancer research funding, Medicare and self-referral. She has also served as field director for the Utah Republican Party and as a staff assistant for U.S. Representative Doc Hastings (R-Wash.).
