3M has released the Scotchcast Quick Step Double Sided Felt Roll Splint, its newest addition to the splint lineup featuring felt on both sides of the product.
Company executives said the splint helps eliminate the potential for wrong-side application, thereby enabling casting technicians and other medical professionals to save time and provide padded comfort for their patients’ injury. The soft, breathable felt offers comfort and protection, along with our water-repellent technology, which helps keep skin dry and reduces the risk of skin maceration, bigwigs noted in a brief news release.
“We use a unique seven layer fiberglass material in our splint that responds to water temperature, allowing you to customize the mold time–the warmer the water, the faster the mold time,” said Greg Skorczewski, advanced technical specialist with 3M's Infection Prevention division. “Once activated, the splint conforms easily to body contours for effective immobilization and sets in 20 minutes for faster immobilization and greater patient comfort.”
The spint's lightweight, low-profile construction is designed to increase patient comfort and satisfaction while offering improved mobility over splints made with heavier materials, 3M officials said.
In addition, the company's roll delivery system provides a fast, cut-to-fit method that reduces waste. Easy-open seams on both sides provide quick access to the fiberglass layers, trouble-free trimming and, ultimately, allows casting technicians to splint their patients in less time.
3M is a life science firm that employs 90,000 people worldwide and has operations in more than 70 countries.
