The Boston, Mass.-based ophthalmic pharmaceutical and medical device company has hired Brian K. Roberts as its new chief financial officer to assume responsibility for the company’s fiscal and administrative affairs. He reports directly to CEO David Muller, Ph.D.
“I am looking forward to working with Brian as Avedro continues to expand the markets for its platform of cross-linking technologies for use in vision correction and treatment of keratoconus,” Muller said. “Brian brings significant operating experience in both public and private company environments, and key financial and strategic experience within the global health care markets.”
Roberts replaces Rhonda J. Bracey, who has been the company’s CFO for the past six years. She is relocating to the West Coast to pursue new opportunities. “Rhonda has been integral in the growth of our business at Avedro and her contributions to the operations of the company will be sincerely missed. I appreciate all that she has done in bringing Avedro to this stage in our development and wish her the best in her new endeavors on the West Coast. She will be a great asset to any company she joins,” Muller said in prepared remarks.
Roberts spent the last six years as CFO of Insulet Corporation, a developer of tubeless insulin pump technology. During his tenure, Insulet grew from approximately $30 million to nearly $300 million in revenue, increased its market capitalization to more than $2 billion and achieved operating profitability.
“I am thrilled to join Avedro,” Roberts said. “I look forward to working with David and the Avedro team to build on the success that its cross-linking platform has had internationally outside the U.S. ”
Prior to Insulet, Roberts served as CFO for Jingle Networks, a leader in mobile voice-ad services that was acquired by Marchex Inc., and CFO for Digitas, a publicly traded digital marketing and media services firm, where he helped build the organization to nearly $400 million in revenue before it was sold to Publicis Groupe for $1.3 billion. He also has held finance positions at Idiom Technologies Inc., the Monitor Group and served as an auditor with Ernst & Young LLP.
Roberts holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance from Boston College and is a certified public accountant.
