Wayne, Pa.-based Teleflex Medical OEM, which, among other things, makes custom sutures and performance fibers, has been granted a patent by the European Patent Office for its high-strength, Force Fiber suture. Patent No. 1623726 provides protection in most European countries for a high-strength suture that combines a coreless braid design with fibers of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). This innovation is also applicable to UHMWPE material co-braided with colored fibers to enhance the suture’s visibility and contrast during surgical procedures.
“The Force Fiber product line continues to show great acceptance across the world,” said Debra Masso, general manager, Performance Fibers for Teleflex Medical OEM. “Force Fiber suture has a high level of strength. Its outstanding physical properties and handling characteristics have made this product popular in the orthopedic arena.”
According to Masso, the high-strength suture is flexible, nonabrasive, and has a silk-like feel that is gentle on tissue and gloves. Force Fiber suture’s coreless braid will flatten upon itself, during the tying process, to provide a snug, low knot profile that allows precise knot placement and a smooth tie down.
The Force Fiber suture product line includes a range of sizes; patterns, including cross and stripe; and a selection of solids and multi-colored sutures, including blue, white, green, white/blue, green/white, white/black and white/green.
The sutures can also be customized to meet the requirements of many unique applications, or incorporated into an anchor or driver.
Teleflex Medical OEM, a division of Teleflex Inc., specializes in custom-engineered extrusions, diagnostic and interventional catheters, sheath/dilator sets and kits, and specialized sutures and fibers.
