U.S. Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) recently visited PTI Engineered Plastics Inc. based in Macomb, Mich. Miller represents Michigan’s 10th congressional district, of which Macomb is part.
PTI is a custom plastic injection molder and manufacturer serving the medical, aerospace/defense, automotive, electronics and consumer products industries. The company specializes in complex, low-volume production with capabilities in design, tooling and manufacturing systems.
Miller presented Mark Rathbone, PTI’s CEO, with a certificate of special congressional recognition, according to a press release.
The certificate also was the result of PTI receiving the Macomb Business Award for Champion of Workforce Development, which was awarded to PTI Engineered Plastics in February by County Executive Mark Hackel.
During Miller’s visit, PTI gave a brief overview of their operation and presented a film on the PTI Technical Academy, which works with students in grades 10-12 on the fundamentals of the manufacturing industry. This program was one of the reasons the company won the workforce development award.
Rathbone expressed his concern with medical device excise tax and the significant impact it will have on the workforce of medical device manufacturers and their suppliers. The visit concluded with a plant tour where Rep. Miller had the opportunity to meet and talk with a recent graduate from the technical academy.
