North Barrington, Ill.-based Medical Murray Inc. is breaking ground for a new facility in Charlotte, N.C. According to the company, the move will double the firm’s footprint and enhance capabilities by expanding research and development services as well as low-volume manufacturing, packaging and logistics. The firm already had a plant in Charlotte, which the new building will replace.
The new facility is located near the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and company officials expect it to be fully functional by the second quarter of this year.
“Our mission when we came to the Southeast has been to increase our support to the medical community and the need for highly complex device requirements from concept to production. Our facility expansion supports our mission by expanding our medical device services with continued focus on delivering innovative ideas and solutions for our clients,” said Tanner Hargens, regional vice president and facility head. “The new facility will also help us work more collaboratively with both new and existing customers by expanding our laboratory space and increasing local engineering resources.”
Hargens specializes in implants, biomaterials, and minimally invasive products. He also provides expertise related to commercializing medical products including quality system and regulatory strategizing.
Medical Murray is a designer, developer and contract manufacturer of unique complex catheter systems, permanent implants and complex components for less-invasive vascular, urologic, and surgical applications. The company—which specializes in intricate designs requiring multi-layer/multi-lumen catheters and shafts to integrate various materials, temperature, and pressure sensors—was founded in 1996. In addition to North Carolina and Illinois, Medical Murray also has facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.
