Medacys Medical Devices Ltd., a Shenzhen, China-based manufacturer of medical devices and components, appointed Anura Welikala as CEO.
Medacys is a custom manufacturer of medical and electronic components and devices. Founded in 2000, Medacys serves customers in Asia and the Americas. Capabilities include product design and development, injection molding, tooling, packaging, assembly, validated processes, and secondary operations. The firm is ISO 13485 certified with Class 8 clean room molding.
Welikala joined the company earlier this year as a partner and this month he transitioned to the role of CEO overseeing strategic operations for the United States and China.
Welikala has worked in the medical device manufacturing industry for 30 years. Most notably he co-founded the medical component manufacturing company, APEC in 1997 and built the company into an international business with manufacturing operations in California and China. APEC was focused on molding difficult components in both silicone and thermoplastics. Welikala sold the company in 2008 to a global conglomerate and stayed with the organization another five years serving as a strategic business development consultant. Prior to APEC Welikala worked for Ohmeda Medical in California and Singapore and also served as a consultant to Nypro in Singapore.
“We are pleased to have Anura join the Medacys team. Aside from his strategic planning and operational expertise, Anura brings a vast knowledge of product development and advanced processing technologies to our organization,” said Pally Wang, founder of Medacys.
The Medacys team includes two former colleagues from APEC—both of whom are partners in the business and bring many years of hands-on experience in U.S./China medical manufacturing in terms of technology transfers and commercialized programs. Jenny Ling Lin heads business development and marketing and Kutt Ty is managing operations as general manager.
