Nypro Healthcare recently introduced a new service to help its medical device customers with the product development and manufacturing processes.
The service is called 3D ProScan, which is a division of NyproMold and business unit of Nypro Healthcare, a Jabil company.
The 3D ProScan’s X-ray CT scanning capabilities are designed to give customers the ability to conduct first article inspections, compare products with their computer-aided design (CAD) drawings or compare parts made by two different facilities or tools. According to company officials, the technology is highly accurate, provides detailed images of internal features without disassembly or destruction, and can significantly shorten the time required for part metrology, validation and qualification for production.
Visent Avxhi, business development manager for 3D ProScan, told Medical Product Outsourcing that it’s a process NyproMold had used internally for many years. The company eventually began to receive requests from clients to use the technology. That was the impetus for creating the company’s new 3D ProScan service.
The scanning technology allows companies, for example to conduct part-to-CAD comparisons, allowing dimensional analyses to be completed in less than two hours. Color-coded geometric comparison provides data on dimensional stability. The service also provides part-to-part comparison, dimensional inspection and complete assembly analysis.
“This way, for example, companies can see production discrepancies before they cause issues,” Avxhi said. “You can get fast, detailed measurements of internal components that can lead to improved time to market and production gains."
He added that the process has been "very popular" in Europe, but is gaining traction in the United States.
Nypro Healthcare also recently opened a new design and product introduction center at its facility in Dallas, Texas. The center provides a wide range of customer support services including processing, tooling, packaging, quality engineering, procurement and supply chain management. Additional capabilities include in-house rapid prototyping, a full-service metrology center, engineering test labs and a 1,500-square-foot Class 10,000 clean room. Regulatory and quality support is also provided.
“Our ultimate goal is to help our healthcare customers meet today’s global challenges by shortening product development cycles, overcoming capacity constraints, reducing costs and gaining a first-to-market advantage,” said Brian Highley, vice president and general manager, Medical Device and Consumer Health, Nypro Healthcare. We are fully committed to our customers’ growth and success.”
