Cyberonics Inc. has named Rohan J. Hoare, Ph.D., as the company as senior vice president of stratedic planning. Hoare will lead business strategy development and execution and functional capability building, according to the company.
Previously, Hoare was president of St. Jude Medical's Neuromodulation division, which manufactures devices for the treatment of chronic pain, movement disorders and chronic migraine headache. In his nine years with St. Jude Neuromodulation (formerly Advanced Neuromodulation Systems Inc.), he held leadership roles in strategy, therapy development, and research and development, where he was responsible for developing and launching numerous products and therapies.
Houston, Texas-based Cyberonics' primary technology focus is neuromodulation. The company developed the VNS Therapy System, which is U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved for the treatment of refractory epilepsy and treatment-resistant depression. The VNS system uses an implanted medical device that delivers pulsed electrical signals to the vagus nerve.
Hoare began his career with McKinsey & Co., a strategy consulting firm, where he served clients in high tech, medtech and healthcare payor and providers for nearly a decade.

Rohan received a Bachelor of Science in physics and was awarded Faculty of Science Scholar honors at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. He continued his studies at Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar, where he received a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. in physics.
