Artificial heart device maker Thoratec has purchased A-Vox Systems, a privately held manufacturer of blood testing instruments for $9 million.
Thoratec said the deal isn't expected to affect earnings in 2006 but is forecast to boost profit next year.
Manufacture of A-Vox devices will continue at the current company headquarters in San Antonio, TX, and then be consolidated into Thoratec's Edison, NJ., manufacturing facility in 2007.
